A sad discovery

Today I took James out to lunch to celebrate the football victory. We of course went to one of our favorite spots, "New York Subs" on Petaluma Blvd. Once there we found out it was closing down for good tomorrow. The owner just can no longer make it in this economy. She was forced to get another job and didn't have much notice of closure. It immediately changed our mood for lunch. The little hole in the wall has been a staple of ours for years. I have it in my contacts on my phone and they always knew us and what we wanted when we came in. Tom and Greg used to go and take the boys, Tom takes the boys when he comes home for visits, Katherine took the boys, Grandpa took the boys for years on Wednesdays, and I have taken them many many times. It makes me sad to think it won't be there anymore. It was such a dive but the sandwiches were unique and not like the chain places. I couldn't believe I ate the last one I would ever have today. James made me sad when he said Tom couldn't take him there anymore. He is traditional and sentimental just like me. He took home his last card he had on file (the picture above) which usually had about 40 stamps (one for each sandwich and we think he was one his 4th card). Family traditions are important and we will always remember the little place called "NY Subs."

  1. That really is sad. I understand how you feel, though. There has been tremendous change in Petaluma over the past 40 years. It is hard to see a place of memories go by the wayside.
